Partners and first users
All MultimediaN activities stress the interaction with a first user. These first users indicate their needs from the innovative field, and by this articulation they influence the scientific research agenda. At the MultimediaN worktables, knowledge institutions interact closely with over thirty partners and first users.
The seven big knowledge institutions from the very beginning are:
- Center for Math and Computer Science
- Philips Research
- Technical University Delft
- Telematica Institute
- TNO
- University of Amsterdam
- University of Twente
Currently these seven knowledge institutions are working together with the following partners and first users:

National embedding
An important contribution to the national embedding of ICT is the coalition of Bsik projects. Agreements have been made to make the coalition work closely together with the ICT direction organ. As regards content, cooperation with VL-e has been started up in the area of i-services, and with Bricks and Lofar in the area of multimedia databases. Cooperation in the area of communication and dissemination takes place in the form of an outreach office, classified under the ICT direction organ. The outreach office advises about modern ICT and refers specific questions to the outreach of specific Bsik projects. The scientific director of MultimediaN presides the consult of the coalition of Bsik-ICT projects.
The lines of examination in MultimediaN have been further embedded in the NOAG-ICT, which is the NWO note on the main points of future research. With this… (Ned. zin klopt niet). To establish a social impact at cultural heritage institutions, concrete cooperation with the NWO catch program is realized.
International orientation
International embedding is also a MultimediaN objective. Researchers within MultimediaN participate in several ‘Networks of Excellence’: MUSCLE. DELOS, Knowledge Web, EUNITE, ECVision, IRIX, and AIR@Home. Besides this, MultimediaN participates in four integration projects: Candela, Aurora, MUUGLE, and Vitalas.
More international orientation takes place within PRESTO Space, AIM Augmented Multiparty Interactio, MESH Multimedia Semantic Syndication for Enhanced News Services and CANTATA. MultimediaN also cooperates with the University of Munich and the European Centre of Ontological Research for software exchange. As part of the seventh EU frame program, MultimediaN joined the general assembly of NEM.
The chairmanship for W3C Semantic Web Best Practices by the leader of project N9C contributes to the new generation of the semantic web. Besides that, researchers take part in the standardization of MPEG, XML, SMIL, and AHM.
